Do you see yourself in the words below?

You've been doing what you're doing for quite a few years now. Do you still get enjoyment? Do you still want to come to your office every day? …other than for the paycheck?

If not, let's look at what excites you. What is your life about? Are you creating a legacy of work? Or are you simply sustaining yourself until retirement? Is there a way to make both show up in your life?

Can you teach with enthusiasm? Do you lead with integrity and openness? Or are you jaded? Are you training the next generation of thinkers to lead? Are you mentoring your junior faculty? What can you do to support those tenure-track folks… or to change the tenure system for the better? If you've lost track of your purpose, is it possible that you could find it again and flourish?

Are you continuing to grow? Are the classes you taught new this year? Or are they the same ones you've been teaching for the past decades. How will you see your last few years? What exciting projects have you always wanted to start?

Are you ignoring other aspects of your creative self? Art? Music? Writing? Sports? Human relations? What can you do to make the world a better place that you haven't already done? How are you at backgammon? Just seeing if you're paying attention. How do you see yourself leading your department and your institution in the next decade? What do you want to be remembered for? Are you still working too hard? Are you still disorganized?

Is there a shift you want to make in your career? Are you ready to branch out into the business world? What have you always wanted to do that your financial stability will now support?
