I gained control of my life and the individual things I wanted to accomplish about my life… I am ecstatic about the work completed with Steve, and I would encourage anyone to participate in this growth process.

"After a very tough time with my work on my dissertation, I sought out a life coach – Steve Reiter. I had met Steve through his on-line newsletter, and was fascinated by the types of things discussed in his publication.

Steve worked carefully to make sure that I gained control of my life and the individual things I wanted to accomplish about my life. His quiet way of drawing information from me is very interesting.

I was a little skeptical about having sessions by phone, but I found that my being in a place of comfort and familiarity during the call made it work better than I initially expected.

During our sessions we not only worked out the details needed to make my dissertation work for me, but also helped me realize the importance of the other things affecting my intellectual life. I know so much about myself that I do not want to reveal, but as part of the life coaching process, I no longer deny those pieces. Rather, I find a way to work within the constraints of who I am, so that I can be productive. I am ecstatic about the work completed with Steve, and I would encourage anyone to participate in this growth process."

We worked together for a little less than a year, and I can only say that the results have been miraculous.

"I came to Steve Reiter at a very difficult time.   Looking back, it was being stuck under a very oppressive rock.  I had been working with the same person for about 17 years, first as a graduate student research assistant, and then as a full-time researcher.  The work and the position were fine, but I never really liked or respected my “boss.”  She was incredibly demanding and controlling, and I never would have put with her as long as I did had I not had two young children to support and a chronic illness to cope with.  It was time to either move up or move on, but based on past experience, I knew she would go ballistic when I told I’d had enough.   The fact that certain features of the job made it easy to achieve a work/life balance made it difficult to know what to do.   I was torn between trying to change my current role to make it more tolerable and clearing out.  But in retrospect, working with this person was incredibly stressful, and I was experiencing symptoms of burnout.

"That was about 15 months ago, when I asked Steve for help.  We worked together for a little less than a year, and I can only say that the results have been miraculous.  I am now in a job doing fascinating work with great colleagues and a boss I adore for more money and far less stress.  If you had asked me back then to imagine this, I wouldn’t have been able to.   The funny thing is that I can’t really explain how this happened.  Even now, it seems magical, as though I have stepped into a parallel universe in which everything that was bad is almost the opposite.  There are a lot of things Steve offers: encouragement, support, advice, tasks, reflection.  But I can’t really point to any one of these things and say, “This is what did it.”

"I think I came to Steve feeling very stuck and willing to try almost anything to change.  Steve took that energy and shaped it, pointed it, got me moving, and helped me over not a few rough patches along the way.   It was a difficult process indeed; my ex-boss reacted more badly than I ever expected.  But Steve got me through it, and now I am free, having so much fun that it seems like it must be illegal.  To borrow a phrase from my son, I owe him a barrage of thankyou’s."

He has a remarkable ability to get to the heart of what is standing in my way… I can hear what he is saying without defensiveness.

"He is uniquely skilled in using the phone for communicating ideas and feelings. He picks up on how I am feeling and is transparent enough to allow me to pick up on his feelings.

"He has a remarkable ability to get to the heart of what is standing in my way and then to share it with me in such a supportive way that I can hear what he is saying without defensiveness. I'm not sure I can say I have never felt defensive with Steve, but it is very rare. The much stronger emotion is to feel total support and delight on his part in working with me."

Steve helped me to grow from a person who has dreams and visions, into a person who can realize those dreams and visions.

"[As a result of coaching], I am much better at recognizing the situations which, in the past, would have tempted me into giving too much of myself — leading to exhaustion and imbalance. Steve has helped me to find ways to pursue my dreams and goals without pushing myself beyond my limits.

"My life is more balanced. More opportunities have presented themselves to me than I ever believed possible. The trick is being able to discern what to pursue and what not to, and how to do so in a way that makes realization of these possibilities truly possible.

"I don't think I could have seen through the challenge of opening a cafe without Steve's help. He offered tremendous support. He helped me chart a course. At times when I thought I would collapse under the stress, Steve aided me in finding solutions and the way forward.

"In our first conversation, Steve brought me to the recognition of the repeated patterns in my life which lead me to overwork at the expense of my health and wellbeing.

I have a better knowing of who I am, my values, my purpose, and the tools that work best for me so I may stay on my path. Thanks for challenging me to climb the tree — the fruit is fantastic!

"[As a result of working with Steve] I feel more solid and confident…and happier. I recognize the potential that I have for changing my life so that I may achieve true happiness.

"I've developed the capacity to know when I'm running [from something] and dissipating my energy — and how to get back on track — and to go more deeply into my personal and professional life.

"I've developed a sense of confidence in embracing my own rhythms and unique ways of flowing with life.

"I've experienced much validation, compassion, thoughtfulness, and gentleness with [him], providing a platform from which to leap into my life with confidence and enthusiasm.

You're really straightforward, easygoing, authentic; it never feels like I'm just one of many clients… the relationship and your service is focused on me.

"There's no pretense… there's just really direct and straightforward interaction with you… right from the very beginning. You don't do it as a technique… you actually let yourself 'touch me.'

"You surrender to the chaos and the confusion that I present in the session. You don't try to sort it out… you just wade in there with me and know that that's what needs to happen for me in order for it to smooth out.

"It really boils down to the elegance of it… it's a place where I can sink down into distinguishing the qualities that are important to me. And, you don't get distracted by the things I say.

"I've let go of concrete and specific outcomes as being the measure… as I get more in touch that it's the attitudinal shift that's important.

"At any moment, the choice I'm making actually includes me in the choice much more often than it used to.

"The real power for me is in the subtle attitudinal shifts that let me stand a little taller, walk a little more confidently. My gaze is lifted, not down. All that is metaphorical, but it also has physical manifestations. I like how I move through life better.

"I'm really tired of talking to people who know what the right answer is for me. You may know it, but you keep your mouth shut about it.

"You're really straightforward, easygoing, authentic; it never feels like I'm just one of many clients… the relationship and your service is focused on me."

It's sort of like jazz… it's improvisational. Steve doesn't lay out the path for me and then let me go it alone. We discover the path together.

"Steve is really agile — mentally and emotionally. He doesn't get too attached to the way we've been working on something. If something isn't working, he'll move on. It's very helpful in moving me forward. And I realize it has helped me not to be so attached to what I've set ahead of me.

"It seems like coaching is about setting out goals, but it's been an unexpected route. I sort of imagined it would be 'sit down and set up goals,' such as 'I want a more balanced life.' But achieving that isn't a straight path, it's meandering. And some of the side paths with me have to do with me accepting things about myself… that I knew about myself but wasn't accepting.

"Coaching brings a real clarity to what's ahead of me. I no longer feel confused or overwhelmed by it.

"Being coached weekly allows me to see more clearly what I choose to do, how 'in balance' my life is each week, how my perspective shifts from week to week, or how the issues shift, or don't. The big issues (e.g., something big I want to create in my life) boil down to smaller actions (i.e., What am I doing about it?) which I can do!

"Coaching with Steve gives me a mirror that I haven't quite had before. For example, noticing who I am and being compassionate to myself. That's part of coaching. And it is often about doing invisible work, that I wouldn't want to talk about to others… because they really wouldn't care or understand.

"It's sort of like jazz… it's improvisational. Steve doesn't lay out the path for me and then let me go it alone. We discover the path together."

What's changed is huge… Absolutely worth it — every single penny of it.

"What's changed is huge. I have an unexpected newfound sense of self that I consciously enjoy. I really value all of me and not just the things that seem like the 'successful' parts of me.

"Instead of something difficult happening and months later thinking what might have been… I'm talking to you, and within that week I'm taking care of it… and there's growth and maturing.

"I've always been a risk-taker, but the risk-taking has taken a more mature look. I still put myself out there, but when I make mistakes I quickly correct anything that needs to be corrected.

"Working with you has helped me not only accept that I'm knowledgable and wise, but to share these gifts in a very natural way… not being a 'know-it-all,' but rather 'someone who knows things.'

"I've internalized a lot of what happens in the coaching. For example, I would think, 'Well, he's going to ask me this, so why not just go ahead and do it?' What's more, now I know how to ask my own coaching questions with other people!

"In the past, I'd have an experience and it would disappear. But in coaching, I'm able to build upon my experiences.

"Sometimes, it's like I'm talking to my girlfriend, but a girlfriend who has a larger picture than I can ever see. You're a man, but I don't usually talk to men the way I talk to you. So I think of it as talking to a wise old girlfriend.

"I am extremely proud of how I've dealt with some very big job issues, and don't think I could have had that result without working with you. That was huge.

"The coaching helps me to know quickly what I want and don't want, and then I do something about it.

"The clarity of your questions keep me right on track.

"Absolutely worth it — every single penny of it."

The surprise to me is that the coaching has helped me feel lighter. It's helped me have more humor and fun in my life, which is incredibly important. And at the same time, I'm more determined to reach my goals, and more steady at doing so.

"When I'm stuck, you get me unstuck.

"For me, one of the most powerful things about coaching with you is the comfort level.

"You have a wonderful balance in terms of when to talk, when to question, and when to listen. And you really know how to ask the right questions. They give me leeway to do my own thinking. But they also make me think deeply about my life and where I'm going.

"I really do get out of this what I put in. But I have no regrets at this point, and no doubts that the coaching has helped to accelerate my growth and give me new and valuable perspective on my life.

"When one takes up something like coaching, the expectation might be that 'This is heavy, serious business, and I've got to get my life in order.' The surprise to me is that the coaching has helped me feel lighter. It's helped me have more humor and fun in my life, which is incredibly important. And at the same time, I'm more determined to reach my goals, and more steady at doing so.

"You bring incredible insight. I say things and you really have an idea of exactly what's going on with me. You have an insight and a way of formulating really, really, wonderful questions.

"It's a privilege to work with you."

I'm seeing more desire on my part to get a bigger life than the one I have.

"Coaching reinforces some things that I already know about myself… that I need constant reminders on.

"I'm seeing more desire on my part to get a bigger life than the one I have. But I know myself, and I'm not going to do it on my own.

"I recognize some things that I haven't recognized before. I would probably not have been thinking to that depth without having had Steve coach me, and trying to pull me into the deep water.

"I only get so far in my thinking by using one little exercise week after week; the value diminishes. I make more progress if I am offered new and varied ways to think and look at stuff I'm facing. Steve seems to have a new arsenal every week."

You are accepting of me and supportive of me, unlike anyone else I have had in my life.

I'm on a voyage of self-discovery, so it may be hard for you to see where I'm going. But you're giving me permission to explore, and that's very helpful for me.

You are accepting of me and supportive of me, unlike anyone else I have had in my life. So it helps me be more accepting of myself.

This whole experience, from beginning to now, is a testimony to how powerful coaching with you is, because I feel like a completely different person now than when I started. I may be completely confused, but I'm confused in a different way. It's no longer about being powerless.

Being more focused on where I'm headed has surprising results. I'm happier and more positive. I'm enjoying the people around me a lot more. And I'm willing to discover and do something to correct my mistakes faster… and with less pain.
